How I beat Sunday night anxiety.
When I was younger, I figured that as I got older, I would be less structured and routine. I thought maybe I’d have it all figured out and be on auto-pilot.
But what I couldn’t possibly know as a 20—or 30-year-old was how big my life would be at 50.
My life is more full and rich than it’s ever been and I find that I both crave and appreciate more structure as time goes on.
In the past, Sunday nights could feel a little anxious because I didn’t know exactly what the week would bring, and I always felt a little unprepared.
I also had the TERRIBLE habit of scheduling work but not scheduling anything recreational and fun!
So I started preparing.
On Saturday or Sunday of every weekend, I spend about an hour planning out my upcoming week, and I f*ckin love it!
I calendar all my client calls, workouts, dates with my wife, class times, and my invaluable focus time for writing and creating content.
Now, when I wake up on Monday morning, I know exactly what I’m doing this week. I’m no longer reacting to what comes at me, and I know with certainty what to say NO to.
If I look at my calendar on Sunday night and there’s not enough blank spots, I know for sure that I’m not adding one more thing for the week. Even if it’s something fun with my friends. I leave that white space for impromptu time with my wife, walking the dog, or anything else I feel like doing.
