Stop with all of the consumption.

I’m not super sure how this happened, but lately I’ve been consuming more information than I’ve been executing on.

What I mean by this is that I have been devouring books and audiobooks on business, marketing, social media, etc., in addition to my required reading for classes.

But I seem just to be jumping from book to book without ever taking the time to apply what I’ve learned. It’s like I’m just hoping I’ll be able to recall all the nuggets when the need arises.

But that’s largely just wishful thinking on my part.

So, what does it say about us when we spend weeks and months inhaling data that we don’t use?

Am I searching for something specific (and not yet articulated) that I’m just hoping I’ll stumble across?

Am I coming across good and useful information, but it requires more effort than I’m willing to put in, so I keep reading in hopes that I’ll find a magic bullet?

Or am I getting caught up in someone else’s hype? If I’m listening to a podcast and someone mentions that a certain book made their lives easier or gave them a framework to make millions, lord knows I’m apt to hit that “BUY” button on Amazon or Audible.

Once again, I turn back to my practice, notice what is going on, ask why I’m doing what I’m doing, and, if need be, pump the brakes.

I’m on a self-imposed break from all business books for a while. I still have a few in the queue that I need to finish, but I’m not buying anything new for a while so I can focus on applying the lessons learned in the last few books I’ve read over the past few years.

The same goes for podcasts and YouTube interviews. I need a break from all the input so that I can focus for a while on the output.

Just gonna dive back into some fiction and recreational reading and step off the self-improvement treadmill for a few weeks!
