Your overwhelming to-do list.

Today is one of those days when I have way more to-dos than hours in the day.

And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this predicament.

I generally tend to feel one of two ways about this.

a) I’m overwhelmed and can feel a sense of tension in my temples, or b) I just sit down and plow through what I can.

Now, the task volume can be the same, but I might feel totally different about them.

Why is that?

For me, it’s a matter of perspective.

If, foundationally, I’m coming from a place of “enough” and “abundance,” then I just seem to dig in and do what I can. And when it’s time to stop, I stop, regardless of whether the list is done or not.

If I’m coming from a place of “not enough” or “scarcity”, then my emotional well-being is directly tied to the length of that list.

You ever seen someone co-dependent on another person? If they’re really co-dependent, it looks really sick. You can easily tell that one person is not ok if their partner isn’t doing well. It usually reeks of unhealthyness.

Same is true when I attach my well-being to my productivity. It looks and feels sick!

So how can we work with this given that as high achievers and entrepreneurs, we’ll ALWAYS and FOREVER have a task list?

This is never going to magically disappear one day.

  1. awareness

  2. recognize the futility

  3. practice letting go. over and over. what you get done today is enough. Then go have dinner with your family and realize that life is not solely about work. There is SO much more to it that needs your attention!
